Barramundi Heaven
Many call Darwin barramundi heaven as its landscape lends itself to the proliferation of the barramundi fish. During the run-off in the months of March to May, the floodplains drain into the rivers. Barramundisline up at and run out of the feeder creeks that flow into the main river during run-off, passing through creek mouths where we get to catch them!
The abundant presence of barramundis can also be attributed to small fish, tadpoles/frogs and crustaceans that are pushed downstream during run-off. They are fodder for the hungry barramundi that are waiting in the creek mouths. This makes barramundi fishing in Darwin anevent in itself.
You can catch barramundis during run-off, our dry season is our slowest time (end of May to August), and build-up produces excellent Barra fishing (September to November). You might even be the one to catch that elusive metre barramundi this time around!
