Quality Fishing, Close to the City
Darwin Harbour and its surrounding grounds fish well year-round, with a few extra species joining the mix in the dry season. Fishing this close to the city means you won’t waste your time on the run out to other destinations, as these grounds are all close enough to Cullen Bay to maximise your time with a line in the water.
And the best bit?
You won’t have to stress about picking the right location.
We’ll confirm the best fishing destination before your tour based on current conditions.
All Year Round
Darwin Harbour’s reefs, wrecks and channels hold quality fish in every season, no matter when you book. Drop a bait into the right patch of structure and feel that unmistakable knock-knock-thud as a big Jewfish or Golden Snapper takes hold and bulldozes straight back for cover.
These aren’t fish that come easy. Black Jewfish fight dirty around structure and will test your tackle and your patience, while a quality Golden Snapper will test your drag all the way to the surface. Get it right and you’ll be icing down a feed that’ll last the week.
- →Black Jewfish
- →Golden Snapper (Fingermark)
- →Blue Salmon
- →Spanish Flag
- →Indonesian Snapper
- →Grunter
- →Coral Trout (Lee Point & Fenton Patches wrecks)
- →Tusk Fish (Lee Point & Fenton Patches wrecks)
Dry Season Bonus
(May to October)
When the water cools off through the dry, the bite changes character entirely. Instead of patiently working the bottom for Jewfish and Snapper, you’re casting to bait schools getting smashed on the surface – Tuna and Mackerel push into the harbour grounds and hunt in packs, often giving away their position with birds working overhead or bait scattering across the surface.
It’s fast, visual fishing. Get a metal slug or stickbait into the right spot and it rarely lasts more than a few seconds before it’s hit hard and you’re hanging on for a proper dry-season tug-of-war.
- →Tuna
- →Mackerel

Meet Your Guide, Gerard
I look forward to sharing my knowledge and experience with you as we explore the Top End’s stunning scenery, abundant wildlife, and world-class fishing opportunities. Whether you’re chasing that fish of a lifetime in Darwin Harbour or heading out to remote NT destinations, I’ll ensure you experience the very best the Territory has to offer.
With over 35 years of Top End fishing experience and 30 years as a Darwin local, I’ve fished all the major river systems and explored most of the NT coastline. My background as a professional photographer means I can also capture those trophy moments for you. After first visiting Darwin on a fishing tour in 1989, I was hooked – literally – and made the permanent move from Victoria in 1996.
I’ll help you plan the perfect trip by recommending the ideal time of year, selecting the best days based on tides and local conditions, and choosing locations that are fishing at their peak as your booking date approaches.
