Have the best day with Alure fishing charters. We were put on the fish every time. Aid and advice was given freely all done to enhance our fishing experience. Sore muscles huge smiles and a full freezer of fish. We are already planning our next trip with Alure. Thank you for the best day.

A great day out had by all. Gerard’s knowledge of the region is exceptional, and he made sure everyone got on to plenty of fish - we’ve already had a couple of great dinners and still have more. Very professional, yet full of top-notch banter on the boat which was also a big plus. The charter keeps numbers small, which we found ideal as Gerard was able to assist everyone if required, and that personal touch adds a hell of a lot to the experience. Fewer people in the boat also meant no tangled lines! Ripper day out - would go back again in a heartbeat.

Two Prime Fishing Seasons

The NT has two distinct peak seasons when barramundi are most active. We fish year-round, but these periods offer the best action:

Don’t stress about picking the right location—we’ll confirm the best fishing destination before your tour based on current conditions.

Wet Season Run-Off

Mid February to May

Explosive wet season fishing action, as the flood plains drain into the creeks & into the main river, washing out bait to hungry Barra boofing everywhere, sucking in their prey.

Wait until you experience the thrill of a powerful strike from a Barra as it sucks in your lure when it hits the water. Hook-Up. Hang-On & Hang-Tight for a dirty fight, as they explode from the water trying to shake that head like crazy to throw your lure back at you.

You will be trembling with adrenalin when you experience the thrill & excitement you get when you’re hooked to a crazy Barra, dancing around the boat, trying to wear your Barra down, win the fight & land it in the net!
An experience you will never forget!

  • Daly River (normally Feb-March)
  • Shady Camp’s Mary River system (April-May)
  • Adelaide River (March-May)
  • 4WD access to remote launch points
  • Prime territory for big Barra

Build-Up Season

August to November

Offers consistently active Barramundi action as the water & daily temperature rise, along with the humidity (sweat season) The big female fish (over 90cm+) turn up at the river mouths to spawn along with the male Barra under 80cm in preparation for breeding & the approaching wet season.

They’re angry, hungry & fight like crazy. Hook-up. Hang-on. Hang Tight.

  • Adelaide River (upstream & mouth areas)
  • Tommy Cut Creek via Saltwater Arm
  • Wiltshire Creeks
  • Coastal boat access to prime spots
  • Corroboree Billabong (opens April-October)

Meet Your Guide - Gerard

I look forward to sharing my knowledge and experience with you as we explore the Top End’s stunning scenery, abundant wildlife, and world-class fishing opportunities. Whether you’re chasing that fish of a lifetime in Darwin Harbour or heading out to remote NT destinations, I’ll ensure you experience the very best the Territory has to offer.

With over 35 years of Top End fishing experience and 30 years as a Darwin local, I’ve fished all the major river systems and explored most of the NT coastline. My background as a professional photographer means I can also capture those trophy moments for you. After first visiting Darwin on a fishing tour in 1989, I was hooked—literally—and made the permanent move from Victoria in 1996.

I’ll help you plan the perfect trip by recommending the ideal time of year, selecting the best days based on tides and local conditions, and choosing locations that are fishing at their peak as your booking date approaches.

Frequently Asked Questions

Absolutely! Gerard has 30+ years of experience teaching people how to fish. Whether you’re a complete beginner or an experienced angler, you’re welcome. We provide all equipment and personalized coaching throughout the day.

We choose the fishing location based on three key factors: the season, current tide conditions, and recent fishing reports. You don’t need to pick—we’ll fish the spot that gives you the best chance of success. We’ll confirm your destination 24 hours before departure.

Safety is our priority.
We don’t drive through rapidly rising creek or river crossings. We constantly review NT Road Reports, Weather & Wind conditions.
We stop fishing in electrical storms, we have protection from the weather with a hard top roof over the seats onboard our boat as well as drop down clears that stop the weather coming in from the sides. Storms normally occur late in the afternoons during our wet season, when we’re normally off the water.
We have spare water proof coats onboard, we recommend that you bring your own rain coat when fishing the Wet Season Run-Off.
When Barra fishing, we’re not on the open water & subjected to rough seas. We’re fishing river & estuary systems, that are in protected waters.
The only thing that stops your Barramundi Fishing Charter proceeding is the rare development of a cyclone, in these circumstances we will contact you to reschedule. In most cases we can fish areas to avoid the river systems impacted by a cyclone/severe weather event as they’re normally isolated to particular areas of the NT coastline & not inland waters.

Yes! Children aged 8 and above are welcome. It’s a fantastic family experience, and we’ve had many young anglers catch their first Barramundi with us. We provide fishing gear for all experience levels.

Yes! We can arrange custom 2-5 day fishing expeditions to locations like Daly River or Shady Camp, including accommodation and meals. Contact us to discuss your preferred dates and we’ll recommend the best destination for that time of year.
